"In ancient times, there were wutong trees, and the phoenix came to roost". Tongxiang got its name because wutong were planted everywhere in ancient times, implying "the hometown of wutong". The city covers a total area of 727 square kilometers, governs 8 towns and 3 streets, and has a permanent population of 1049900, including 710000 urban population, with a urbanization rate of 67.87%.   In 2021, the city will achieve a GDP of 114.169 billion yuan, ranking 23rd among 93 counties (cities, districts) in the province, and a total financial revenue of 17.8 billion yuan, including 10.9 billion yuan from the general public budget, and 68153 yuan and 43709 yuan from the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents.

There is paradise on the top and Suzhou and Hangzhou on the bottom. Tongxiang is in the center of Suzhou and Hangzhou. Tongxiang is located in the hinterland of Hangzhou Jiaxing Lake Plain in northern Zhejiang Province, which is the center of the "Golden Triangle" of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, with obvious regional advantages. Shanghai Hangzhou High speed Railway, Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway, Shenjiahu Expressway, 320 National Highway and Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal run through the whole territory, and the land and water transportation system is developed. Tongxiang has a flat terrain, dense river network, four distinct seasons, and beautiful environment. It is a typical water town in the south of the Yangtze River, known as the "land of fish and rice, the palace of silk, the land of flowers, and the land of culture". It is a national health city, a national garden city, a provincial forest city, and a provincial civilized city. In particular, in recent years, Tongxiang has promoted the construction of beautiful Tongxiang, beautiful towns and beautiful villages in an integrated way with the concept of scenic area globalization. It has twice won the title of "Excellent City for Building a Beautiful Zhejiang" and "Dayu Ding" for flood control. It has become one of the first batch of counties (cities) in the province and the only one in Jiaxing that is a typical demonstration breeding county (city) for large gardens in the province. Tongxiang has a long history and profound cultural heritage. Ancestors lived here as early as 7000 years ago. It was the junction of Wu and Yue in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Chongde County was established in the third year of Tianfu in the late Jin Dynasty (938 AD) (incorporated into Tongxiang in 1958), and Tongxiang County was established in the fifth year of Xuande in the Ming Dynasty (1430 AD). In Tongxiang, Majiabang culture, Liangzhu culture, canal culture and ancient town culture complement each other, giving birth to Zhang Luxiang, Lv Liuliang, Lu Feikui, Taixu, Mao Dun, Feng Zikai, Qian Juntao, Xu Xiaobing, Muxin and many other celebrities. Tongxiang is the permanent host of the World Internet Conference, and the Wuzhen Summit has become an international platform for connectivity between China and the world and a Chinese platform for sharing and co governance of the Internet. With the holding of the World Internet Conference, Tongxiang has become one of the regions with the best network infrastructure in China. Free WIFI in public places has basically achieved full coverage, and 5G network has taken the lead in the pilot project.
