On January 9, last Friday, it was overcast and rainy. It is only a few minutes away from the accommodation to Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Huang Yuefeng did not hold an umbrella and took the elevator to the 12th floor of the hospital's inpatient department before 8: 00 a.m. in three steps and two steps. Huang Yuefeng, 28, is a staff member of the Civil Affairs Office of the People's Government of Hemp Town. On May 10, 2017, he joined the China Bone Marrow Bank. In October 2019, the staff of Tongxiang Red Cross Society told him that his retained blood sample was initially consistent with a patient. Later, he actively cooperated all the way to Hangzhou on January 6, 2020 and began to inject mobilization agents. On the morning of January 10, hemopoietic stem cells were officially collected.

"You see, so many people have donated, and I am not the only one." Huang Yuefeng's parents and sister, who arrived later, wrote all their worries on their faces. He smiled and pointed to the numbers on the wall, saying relieved words.

Huang Yuefeng's family arrived in Hangzhou on Thursday night because they were uneasy and the collection time was earlier. The family had dinner together, but Huang Yuefeng did not refuse delicious food as usual, but only chose light food for fear of affecting the quality of donation.

Time passed quietly. Huang Yuefeng, lying on the collection bed, calmly stretched out his arms and squeezed the pressure ball with his right hand from time to time. Through blood separation equipment, hematopoietic stem cells in his body were slowly separated from peripheral blood.

Sister Huang Xueli, like her parents, only learned about her younger brother's donation of hematopoietic stem cells a week ago. "He has always made his own decisions and is very independent. It is most appropriate to describe him as a warm-blooded youth. At the age of 20, he became a firefighter. During his two years as a soldier, he experienced the sharpening of ligament damage and reconstruction during training, and also participated in many rescue missions. "Although the mission is not very large, it is enough to make me realize the preciousness of life."

The meaning of life, after he entered the Civil Affairs Office of the People's Government of Hemp Town and became a staff member, got the most real experience.

Life sometimes has a harsh face on people. "Because I am engaged in civil affairs, I have seen many families of seriously ill patients fall into despair little by little. What we can do is to try our best to restore their confidence." A 13-year-old boy suffering from leukemia once touched Huang Yuefeng deeply.

In just over a year, the boy's condition took a sharp turn for the worse, and the treatment cost of more than 1 million yuan overwhelmed the working family. When he was dying, his instinctive desire for survival made the boy make his last plea, "Mom, sell the house to me to see a doctor!" Even so, the boy did not suffer from the disease in the end.

In addition to applying for corresponding subsidy policies for these unfortunate families, can we also do some what? In May 2017, Huang Yuefeng learned about the donation of hematopoietic stem cells while preparing to donate blood. He immediately thought of his former colleague, Chen Qiang, the assistant police officer of the marijuana police station, who was the third donor of hematopoietic stem cells in Tongxiang.

Although he did not know much about hematopoietic stem cells at this time, with the people around him as an example, he did not have any worries and resolutely donated blood samples for testing, and later became a member of China's hematopoietic stem cell donor database.

The probability of successful non-kinship matching is only one in tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands. "For patients and their families waiting for matching, my stem cells are all their hopes." Huang Yuefeng said so.

Bring hope to others, Zhang Jian, a Tongxiang volunteer of the Red Cross, took over the "baton" from Huang Yuefeng. At more than 1 pm on January 10, Zhang Jian checked the special box for hematopoietic stem cell storage and transportation and relevant certification materials for the last time in Huang Yuefeng's collection room, then hung up the work permit of Zhejiang Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donation Volunteer Service Team and took the subway to high-speed railway station nearby.

In May 2014, Zhang Jian also donated hematopoietic stem cells for unknown patients, becoming the first Tongxiang citizen to donate hematopoietic stem cells. Since then, he has started to be a propagandist and "courier" for related donations.

Is hematopoietic stem cells what?
